Rooting Out Envy
FEBRUARY 15TH, 2022 | TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL: ROOTING OUT ENVY (Philippians 4:13 MSG)
Envy by definition is a grudging regard for the advantages seen to be enjoyed by others. It means ‘to look closely at’, then, ‘to look with malicious intent.’ If your love is directed toward others, you will rejoice in their blessings rather than desiring those blessings for yourself. Envy and jealousy in your life are like rust on iron; they wear out the one who is envious. Being jealous is a sin that is abominable and almost universal. Envy and jealousy are fruits of the flesh.
Contentment roots out envy and allows you to see life from God’s point of view. Focus on what you should do instead of what you think you should have. The Apostle Paul teaches us that “the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty,”is knowing the One who makes you who you are. By this you will be grateful for everything you have and have no room for envy. Remember that God is the source and owner of everything you possess. Be grateful for what you have and do not covet what someone else has.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Thank the Lord for your life and for everything He has blessed your life with.
2. Pray that God will endow you with wisdom to use wisely everything He has put in your hands.
3. Pray for grace to up-root any envy in your life and cast out every desire for what you don’t have.
4. Pray for grace to trust in God at all times to provide every need.
