Abide
Jesus demonstrates to us the power and work of the Trinity by using the grapevine. The fruit analogy is reminiscent of Jesus’ teaching on the vine, branches, and fruitful harvest. The grapevine is a prolific plant. A single vine supports numerous branches and bears many grapes.
Jesus illustrates to us that He is the vine, God is the vinedresser, the Holy Spirit is the fruit, and we are the branches. A branch has to “abide” in the vine in order to bear fruit. The use of the word abide denotes intimacy. Other synonyms of abide will include stand, dwell, endure, reside or remain. To abide means to deny oneself, take up the cross and follow.
To abide means to become partakers of His suffering. No plant produces fruit instantaneously. Fruit is the result of a process. Once the fruit is on the vine, the gardener cleanses the fruit of bugs and diseases.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Pray that the Father will keep you secured in the vine, so that you will never be cut off.
2. Pray that anything in you that prevents you from bearing fruit shall be removed by the Father. Ask Him to give you every grace you need to abide in Him and be fruitful.
